The INOVACEL project was present at the XVII Seminar of APA – Aquacultores de Portugal (Portuguese Aquaculturists Association), held in Olhão on May 16, 2025, through the presentation of a scientific poster entitled: “Sustainability and innovation in cellular Aquaculture: a circular approach with microalgae.”
Researcher Joana Rosa (S2AQUAcoLAB) highlighted the potential of microalgae as a key resource in the formulation of more sustainable cell culture media, replacing animal serum with plant and marine alternatives. Laboratory methodologies and strategies for the valorization of effluents were also discussed, within a circular economy approach.
The seminar was a valuable opportunity to disseminate the project’s progress to professionals in the aquaculture sector, researchers, and policy makers, reinforcing INOVACEL’s role in building a new generation of biotechnologies applied to the sea.
