Cell Culture Medium: From Effluent to Value

At Necton, we are always looking for more sustainable ways to produce microalgae and transform byproducts into resources with real impact.

The effluent from fish cell culture, still rich in nutrients, is being tested as a medium for microalgae growth, in an approach that combines innovation and sustainability.

  • Trials under controlled conditions
  • Evaluation of different cultivation parameters
  • Valorization of a byproduct with potential

The microalgae biomass produced in this context will be used in the development of a microalgae serum, to replace fetal bovine serum in cell culture.
An approach that closes the cycle: from effluent to cultivation, and from cultivation to more sustainable solutions.

Circularity in cellular agriculture

At GreenCoLab, we turn a challenge into an opportunity.
The effluent from fish cell culture, which is still rich in nutrients, can be given a new lease of life instead of being discarded; it is being used to cultivate microalgae.
